Day 284 – Strawberry Crepe Cupcakes

It’s Mother’s Day.  Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, including the moms-to-be (like me!).  Here’s an oldie, but a goodie, of me and my mom!


But, it also happens to be my sister’s birthday. Now, unfortunately for my adorable niece, Pieper, this is the best photo I have of Lauren and I together.  Sorry, peanut!


Now, there are sooooo many great Mother’s Day cupcake options.  And so many birthday options.  But, when it comes to a day for celebrating not one, but 2, of my favorite people, there was only one logical choice.  Crepes.  The three of us used to make crepes almost every weekend.  Now, we normally took the quick (and obviously healthy) road, and just sprinkled our crepes with brown sugar.  But these Strawberry Crepe Cupcakes (recipe below from Just Putzing Around the Kitchen) seemed to be a better option.  Strawberries.  Crepes.  And Nutella.  Yep.  That’ll do.

The cupcakes are soft and a little oily. The top is a little crunchier than the cupcake below. It has a very sweet taste. Not distinct in any flavor, just sweet. A little like a white cake donut.


The frosting is thick and smooth. It has a strong Nutella taste, but stable and creamy thanks to the butter and sugar.

The whole cupcake reminds me even more of a donut. The sugary chocolate frosting mixed with the sugary cake, just makes me feel like I’m eating a thickly frosted donut. With a little strawberry in the middle.


The flavors totally work together. But that’s what they make me think of. Not a cupcake. A donut.

Strawberry Crepe Cupcakes (recipe from Just Putzing Around the Kitchen)


  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp table salt
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 whole strawberries, hulled + more for garnishing

Nutella Buttercream Frosting:

  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
