Day 229 – Chocolate Stout Cupcakes

17 Mar

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!!  I’m sure most of you celebrated this weekend, at any number of amazing parties and events that happened.  But today, March 17th, is the actual date.  Now, fun facts that you might not know: Saint Patrick’s Day commemorates the life (and death) of Saint Patrick as well as the arrival on Christianity in Ireland.  Fun fact that you probably do know: St. Patrick’s Day has been adopted as a day to celebrate the heritage and culture of the Irish in general.

So, no matter how you celebrate, make sure you try these Chocolate Stout Cupcakes (recipe below from Momtastic Food).  After the Musical Monday selection though.

Alright.  Enjoy!

The cupcakes have the consistency and texture of a brownie. Dense, a little crumbly, with a slight crunch on top. They are chocolatey and dark, but not like dark chocolate. They have that dark, almost bitterness of Guinness, but without the bite.

The frosting is very thick. Easy to pipe, but it takes a little muscle. It’s a typical buttercream. Sweet and sugary with a nice vanilla flavor.

Together, the stout flavor almost disappears. It’s kinda like a frosted brownie. Well, a lot like a frosted brownie. The chocolate and vanilla flavors are the strongest. And with the little crunch from the cake, it’s very brownie-esque.

Notes: The original baker found these adorable 4-leaf clover sprinkles. I couldn’t find any, so I improvised with Lucky Charms.
